Examples of Topics You'll Learn About In Nutrition 101
What Is A Balanced Meal?
How do you read a nutrition label?
How much water do you need each day?
A balanced meal is about half non-starchy vegetables, a quarter quality protein, and a quarter smart carbohydrates, with a little healthy fat. It keeps energy and blood sugar steady and takes the guesswork out of meals.
Start with the serving size, since every other number depends on it. Then scan added sugars, sodium, fiber, and protein, and read the ingredient list, where shorter is usually better and the first few ingredients make up most of the product.
A common starting point is about half your body weight in ounces of water per day, adjusted for heat and activity. In Florida’s climate, most people need a little more.
